CNRS Alumni Association organizes trips abroad each year.

A3 CNRS organized its first trip to China in 2009.

A party of 34 members visited Beijing, Xi’an, Guilin, Suzhou, Shanghai, Quandong and Hong Kong, taking in all the major sites (The Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, the Forbidden City, the Terra Cotta Army etc..) between 30 April and 13 May.

During the trip, two parties were organized, on 30 April in Beijing and 6 May in Shanghai, with former Chinese members of CNRS., attended by about fifty former members in each place.

In Beijing the party was held at the Central Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and in Shanghai at the Sino-French Centre of Tongji University.

Following these meetings, a « Chinese Chapter » of the CNRS Alumni Association was set up. Its President is Professor ZHAN Wenlong, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a phycisist who spent two years in France from 1986 to 1988 as visiting scholar at GANIL, Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (National Large Heavy Ion Accelerator) in Caen, Normandy. He later spent two years as visiting scientist at Columbia University from 1991 to 1993.
